Bicycle Light

"Wow! 4 Mode 5 LED Bicycle Tail Light Safety Bike Blinker..."

...If you have a bicycle, then it goes without saying that you need a reliable bicycle light.   Maybe you don't mind riding at night or in fog, but you keep safe by using a bright, even light.

If you don't think there is a variety of bile lights available how about a  "4 Mode 5 LED Bicycle Tail Light Safety Bike Blinker SR"?  I think that would make a great song title, like "Ititsy Bitsy, Teeny Weeny, Polk Dot...  Well, you know what I mean.

Today, most bicycle lights are high-tech and have a distant range.  Lithium Ion battery packs are common because they are lightweight and last longer than the usual NiCad batteries.

The ARC Li-ion Light has a 300g battery pack, making it lightweight and less of a hassle to use.  Plus, the "high intensity discharge lamp" gives you plenty of brightness with 13.5 watts.  Auto-shut off means forgetting to turn off the light won't wear out the battery.  And that goes for led bicycle safety lights

Bicycle reflectors also give riders visibility.  The reflectors have tiny hexagons that are each made up of three mirrors that form the corner of a cube.  A face plate covers the cube shapes in the reflector.

A bicycle reflector can help drivers see the rider, when the cars' headlights point at the reflector.  But sometimes drivers don't use their lights or point them away from the reflector.  For this reason, rear-facing reflectors work best with tail-lights.

A creative idea from Cat Eye is the LED Rear Light CD 550, which has a reflector built into the light.  You can clip the light on your bag or shirt.

One brand of reflectors is the Sate-Lite Model SL-121, with a width of 2.15 inches and a height of 1.85 inches.  Sate-Lite also has front-facing reflectors, as well as reflectors for spokes and pedals.

Reflective tape is an option, but may not be legally acceptable.  You might try using reflective tape in combination with reflectors.  Cycle Guard Reflectors can be handy too.  You attach the reflector band to the frame bar, handlebars, or the seat post.

But, again, nothing takes the place of a bicycle light.  And the light may not use a regular light bulb.  For instance, LED lights are common and have advantages over regular lights.

Unlike fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs, LEDs can easily focus light in one area, don't react to shock, and last about ten years.  LEDS also burn out slowly and don't get as hot as regular bulbs.  And you might have seen how fast LEDS light up: in 0.01 seconds.

Cat Eye's AL-EL200 has three LEDS that can flash or be on constantly.  This light can last for 220 hours while flashing or 110 hours while constant and runs on easy-to-find double A batteries.

Other LED bicycle lights are rechargeable, like Vega's Light and Motion.  You plug in the recharger and in less than two hours, the light has full power.  Plus, the high-tech NiMH battery lasts up to 500 cycles and has about 50% more power than NiCad batteries.

Halogen lights also use NiMH batteries and give off bright light.  These lights have a quartz cover, but incandescent light bulbs uses glass.  While a regular bulb uses argon or nitrogen gas, the halogen light uses fluorine or chlorine gas.  So the halogen bulbs last longer and send out more light than a regular bulb.

One example of a halogen light is the Solo light that lets you mount it on the helmet or the handlebars.  It has also has two side windows.

You can even get bicycle helmet lights in addition to a multipurpose safety light bicycle configuration.

Look for the latest technology when getting your bicycle light.
