New Gel Bicycle Seat

"Gel is Swell - New Gel Bicycle Seat..."

...Perhaps you've heard of a bicycle gel seat or maybe even sat on one.  You know the difference between a traditional foam seat and a gel seat.  To make the experience of riding a bicycle more enjoyable and more comfortable, manufacturers have come out with the gel seat.

New Bicycle Seat Gel Cover

If you don't want to replace your existing seat with a gel saddle, you can get a gel bicycle seat cover for about the same price.  This way, you can get used to the gel, which is a shock-absorbing material that has little weight. One example of a seat cover is the Memoflex polymer Gel Seat Pad, with rubber backing and a drawstring to keep the cover on the seat.

If you're into bright colors, the X-Factor Anatomical Gel Saddle Cover is for you.  This saddle has black surrounded by two, bright pink marks.

Of course, the gel cover isn't quite the same as a gel seat. Look around and you can spot gel seats, as well as the many other uses for gel.  Now you can find gel in gloves, mattresses and pillows, not to mention the seat cushions for tractors and cars.

Lycra-Covered New Gel Bicycle Seat

Gel also works well in a bicycle seat because it adjusts to fit your contours. so you get a customized fit.  The Seat's Ultimate is a lycra-covered gel seat and comes in turquoise, fuchsia, and lime.  This seat also has a nose-less design.

A more traditional-looking bicycle gel seat is the Fly Cromoly Gel, with gel throughout the seat top.  Manufacturers have put less cushion in the rear than in the front to give you more riding power.

For extra safety, you might try the X-Factor LED Light Gel Bicycle Seat.  This light gel seat has rear flashing lights built into it and the lights are helpful for rain or fog.  By the way, X-Factor also has triple-layered gel seat covers.

Sculpted Gel Bicycle Seat

Some gel seats are specifically for women, like the Terry 2006 Butterfly Tri Gel Saddle.  This seat uses sculpted gel, with extra inserts for the sitting bones.  This lightweight saddle also has a cutaway in the mid-section for more comfort.

Meanwhile the Selle Italia's Lady Gel Flow Saddle comes in red, yellow, blue, and black. It has a sleek, slim design to fit a woman's body.

For men, the Liberator X-Gel Bicycle Saddle has an updated version with a slender front.  The gel, along with the design, help prevent chafing and numbness.

Dual-Spring Gel Seat

Yet another type of gel seat uses both springs and gel to give you superior cushioning.  One example is the Webspring Gel Seat, which also has a dual-spring version with a double layer of gel.

The type of gel seat, like any other bicycle saddle, you need depends on how often you ride. You may be a recreational rider, spending about six hours on a bike, in a straight position.  Or, perhaps you ride long distance or compete as a triathlete and you need a performance seat.  Another rider might be involved in the Race Across America and other tours.

The good news is you can find a gel seat to match you riding style.  You may need to use a combination of a gel seat and gel cover. Most of all be willing to explore your options to get the best riding experience.
